DescriptionCornsilk ochre colored wedding gown with a low round neckline. There are small gathers at the top of each shoulder. Pleats in the bodice form V from shoulders to pointed waist. Long sleeves tightly gathered at top then ruched. Base of sleeves gathered into two cuffs w/ hook & eye. Knife pleats on front of skirt and guaged around sides and back. Hooks & eyelet holes at center of back. Bodice cotton lined with 3 bones at sides and center front.Dimensions51.4999 x 52.4999 in. (130.8 x 133.4 cm)
Historical NotesWorn by Mary Ivory at her marriage to Nicholas Good in 1842 in St. Peter's Church, Pittsburgh. Mary immigrated with parents from Ireland around 1817. Her father was a whitesmith and reputedly built the locks on the Old Allegheny Prison. He farmed the land and built an inn at the Junction of Ivory Ave and Perrysvill Road (Old Perry Highway), known as the 'Four Mile Inn.'Label TextMary Ivory wore this silk wedding dress for her marriage to Nicholas Good in 1842 in St. Peter’s Church, Pittsburgh. Mary immigrated to Pittsburgh with her parents from Ireland in 1817. Her father, who fought during the Irish Rebellion of 1789, was captured by the British, and later released as he was only eight years old at the time. Once settled here, he became a whitesmith, in addition to farming and building an inn at the junction of Ivory Ave. and Perrysville Road.
