DescriptionSquare collage on a French magazine paper base. Swirling designs in earth toned acrylic paints over existing advertisement images. The tan, crackled design of the magazine advertisment is visible in the middle and bottom right, and is painted over by dark maroons on the right. An electric blue and green design dominates the left half of the piece, and is most likely a continuation of the design from Object 2010.53.321.Dimensions2.375 x 2.875 in. (6 x 7.3 cm)
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
