Historical NotesStaff Sergeant patches belonging to Frederick A. Lepant who served during WWII. According to the US Army's website, a Staff Sergeant commands a squad of nine to ten Soldiers, and often has one or more Sergeants under their leadership. Addressed as "Sergeant," they are responsible for developing, maintaining and using the full range of their Soldiers' potential. Frederick Albert Lepant (April 14, 1928-September 18, 2008) was a graduate of Schenley High School, and who resided in Bellevue, was a member of US Army Air Forces during World War II, from 1940-1947. After his military career he was a draftsman at Dravo and then an electrical engineer at Duquesne Light.
