Embossed on reverse: "LIBERTY" in center; around edge, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA".
Historical NotesAnti-slavery token. Cast in 1838 this bronze token was used to help promote the abolition of slavery in the United States. Similar to the male figure depiction of the 1795 coin, the female coin was caste from an engraving by Patrick Reason in 1835.
