DescriptionBlack cotton corset with beige cotton covering the bones. Front: black lace trim with satin bow in top center. Five silver metal loops; engraved text on loops. Loops attach to five round metal pegs on opposite side. Seventeen eyelets on inside of each side, tied incorrectly together with black cotton string. Dimensions21 x 15.25 in. (53.3 x 38.7 cm)
InscriptionsFive silver metal loops have engraved text: "GB / [decoration]".

Inside (back): proper right inside: brown stamp, ".../Bala Spirite".

Rectangular gold, black, and white sticker, "C / BALASPIRITE / [images of coins?] / No. 371".

The number "21" is penciled twice on inner bones.
Historical NotesCorset from the family of Helen and Nellie Curry, Upper St. Clair. The corset is said to have been worn to an 1870 ball at West Point. It was given to donor Nancy Page by the Currys at their home sale.
