Historical NotesThis appears to be the type II G&C carbine, of which about 4,000 units were made during the Civil War, primarily for use by mounted troops. This particular gun seems to have seen little, if any, actual usage, retaining the original barrel bluing and case-hardening colors on the receiver.Label TextKnown as “grapevines” for their distinctive, serpentine trigger-guards, the .52 caliber carbine saw service in the western theater of the war. Short and lightweight, these carbines were designed for horse soldiers.
