Patent dates on the propeller are c. 1926. Pennsylvania Airlines used the Ford Tri-Motor aircraft in the early 1930s, and this propeller may have been the type fitted to this airplane. A variable-pitch propeller was developed by the Pittsburgh Steel Propeller Company, which was eventually absorbed by the Hamilton Standard Propellor Company.
