Label TextSerbians took many influences from the Turks, adapting them to meet their needs. Serbian coffee is one of these traditions common in many households. This coffee service was used for the ceremonial coffee preparation and service. The coffee was prepared after a meal, signifying the end. It was boiled three times, representing the Holy trinity. Rakija, or brandy, was added. The fildzan, or demitasse cups, were placed in a circle on a round tray, symbolizing the Serbian kolo, or circle. The coffee was ground in a mlinac, or mill, and boiled in the dzezva, or long-handled coffee vessel. The brew was first served to the eldest or most honored guest, who offered the cup, out of humility, to the first person on his or her right.
