Historical NotesPart of a collection of pieces made by the Jackson China Company. These were collected by the donor’s parents Marilyn and Wallace Weber. Marilyn’s mother had a Xenia patterned plate from Jackson China and Marilyn wanted to complete the set, this started a lifetime of collecting Jackson China. Collected to document a local industry and company. Jackson China was located in Falls Creek, PA and was started by Harry William Jackson after moving to Dubois, PA in 1914. He purchased the former Bohemian Art Pottery site (formerly Crystal Glass Company site) and formed Jackson China Company with Emanuel A. Fischel who had started Bohemian. Jackson was an English immigrant. Jackson was murdered by an employee in 1924 and Fischel ran the company until 1943. The pottery was most known for industrial restaurant ware, but also had several lines of fine china. The collection documents a range of both time and styles produced by Jackson as well as some items that show competitor's China, unfinished pieces with their finished counterparts, and tools of the trade. Jackson China closed in 1985.
