DescriptionRectangular hand-made photo-album-type book. Covers are covered in blue fabric. Endpapers are red, black, and yellow marbleized paper. Pages are colored construction paper. Each page has a black and white portrait photograph of a single person with their printed name above in black text. Each photograph has a piece of colored construction paper folded over the image with only the smile showing; the paper folds up to reveal the entire photograph and name of person.Dimensions13.5 × 11.75 × 1 in. (34.3 × 29.8 × 2.5 cm)InscriptionsFront cover and title page have hand-painted paper with multi-colored title text at center “SMILES”.
Subsequent pages each have a black printed caption consisting of the photographed person’s name above the photograph.
Historical NotesSmiles book theatrical prop from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood set, Episode 1740, "Noisy and Quiet." The Neighbors featured in the book of smiling faces include Chuck Aber, Mr. McFeely (David Newell), Maggie Stewart, Bob Trow, Marilyn Barnett, and Betty Aberlin. Part of a collection from the set of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Mister Rogers was one of the longest running children’s show on public television. It debuted on national television in 1968 and ran until the 2001.
