DescriptionService medal consisting of a two-layered black fabric ribbon that is threaded through and folded over a metal buckle at top. Fabric is horizontally ribbed. Metal chain and hook is attached to the top of the buckle. Round gray metal medallion attached to front of ribbon. One side of the medallion features a bas-relief bust profile of a man. Back of the medallion has a shallow relief of workmen, a factory, and a locomotive.Dimensions1.375 x 0.25 x 7 in. (3.5 x 0.6 x 17.8 cm)
InscriptionsOne side of the medallion has text along top "UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION".
To the bottom left of the man is to read raised text "[?]LENYI" and underneath the man is inscribed text "[illegible] Gary / [illegible]"; both areas of text are difficult to decipher.

Back of the medallion has raised text along top "35 YEARS SERVICE" and inscribed text along bottom "GEORGE PINDROH".
Historical NotesUS Steel service medal given to George Pendro for 35 years of service; his name is inscribed as "Pindroh" on the medal itself. The Pendro family immigrated from Austria-Hungary in the late 1800s, settling in Pittsburgh around 1890. George Pendro worked at the Carnegie-Illinois Edgar Thomson Works steel mill. His son, Andrew Pendro, Sr., worked in the same mill as the head motor inspector for over fifty years.
