On base, printed in black: "UNISPHERE / PRESENTED BY [USS inside circle] UNITED STATES STEEL / This beautiful UNISPHERE is the Symbol of the 1964-1965 New / York World's Fair, and is dedicated to man's aspirations toward "Peace / Through Understanding" and symbolizes his achievements in an / expanding Universe. / It is the largest representation of our planet Earth ever attempted -- / 140 feet (thirteen stories ) high, 1,000,000 lbs. of Shining Stainless / Steel, the open grids representing the latitudes and longitudes sup- / porting the land masses of the World -- all dramatically set in a 310 / foot reflecting pool."

Historical NotesSmall souvenir tray from the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair, featuring the famous "Unisphere." The Unisphere was a 12-story representation of the world constructed by United States Steel. The theme of the World's Fair was "Peace Through Understanding" and the Unisphere represented the theme of global interdependence. It was dedicated to "Man's Achievements on a Shrinking Globe in an Expanding Universe."
