DescriptionCircular campaign button. The background of the front of the pin is white. Printed on the white is a blue symbol with union logo. Under the symbol is the button slogan in large blue lettering with another slogan underneath printed along the bottom edge in smaller blue lettering. The back is plain metal with fastener.Dimensions1.75 x 5.5 in. (4.4 x 14 cm)InscriptionsPrinted on the white is a blue symbol with "ALLIED PRINTING/ CHICAGO, ILL." printed on the outer edges. Inside the symbol is "TRADES COUNCIL" and in the very center "UNION / LABEL" is printed. "323" is printed to the right of the symbol.
Under the symbol, "I AM / PROUD / TO BE / UNION" is printed in large blue lettering.
Under that slogan, "AMERICAN INCOME LIFE" is printed along the bottom edge in smaller blue lettering.
Historical NotesPart of a collection relating to the life and political career of Lieutenant Governor Catherine Baker Knoll. Born in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, Catherine Baker Knoll worked in the family business, Knoll Hotel and Restaurant, developing her people skills and beginning her political activism. In 1970, she became a state committee woman for the Democratic Party, then rose through the ranks of the state's Department of Transportation Bureau of Motor Vehicles. She was tapped by the party in 1976, to run for State Treasurer, but did not get elected to office until 1988. She easily won a second term in 1992, by a landslide vote. In 2002, she was elected as the state's first female Lieutenant Governor.
