Historical NotesThis bust of Christopher Columbus is from the National Headquarters building of the Sons of Columbus of America, Inc., a fraternal organization for people of Italian descent. In 1925, three independent Pittsburgh Italian organizations merged and became the Sons of Columbus of America, Inc. This marble bust stood in the organizational offices from 1925 through 2004, when floodwaters from Hurricane Ivan destroyed the home office in Carnegie, outside of Pittsburgh. The bust originally occupied the organization's first headquarters building in East Liberty.
