Historical NotesOfficer William Heagy was shot in the back during a police chase of a gunman through the Hill District on March 25, 1954. The gunman was Aloysius "Al" Spaulding, heavyweight prize fighter, who was well known to and had been befriended by the officer. Days later, Spaulding committed suicide in his jail cell, strangling himself with his bunk chain. Part of the Pittsburgh Police Historical Association collection.
