Historical NotesJohn Beitler owned a downtown tavern before moving to East Liberty in 1815. Beitler's Tavern was located on Penn Avenue at Collins Avenue. It was famous for dinners of spring chicken and waffles. Part of a large donation made in 1947 by the estate of Thomas Mellon II.
