Historical NotesAccording to the attached plaque, this is a cross-section of a log that was used by Col. Bouquet's forces to build a road bridging Edmunds Swamp in Shade Township, Somerset County. This was done in advance of the Forbes expedition in August 1758. The Forbes Expedition was a British military expedition led by Brigadier-General John Forbes during the French and Indian War.
