Historical NotesThis ribbon was made to commemorate General Lafayette's visit to Pittsburgh in May 1825. Originally donated to the Carnegie Museum by Mary O'Hara Darlington, November 1925.Label TextThis ribbon featuring images of Lafayette and Washington was created to celebrate Lafayette’s tour of the United States in 1824–1825. The trip inspired a variety of souvenir items including cups, plates, and pins. Pairing Lafayette and Washington reminded Americans of their close relationship and of Lafayette’s status as the sole surviving general of the Revolutionary War.
