Historical NotesUnited States Soccer Federation necktie worn by Nicholas DiOrio. Nicholas DiOrio grew up in Morgan, a coal town near Bridgeville, where soccer was popular in the 1930s-1950s. He played for various soccer teams in the region, including Morgan, Harmarville, and Beadling. Founded in 1898, Beadling is the oldest existing soccer club in Allegheny County. He was also a member of the US soccer team that competed in the 1950 World Cup competition in Brazil. His World Cup team pulled what is thought to be one the greatest upsets in soccer history when they beat heavily-favored England 1-0 early in the tournament.
