Historical NotesPart of a collection of blacksmith tools made and used by donor Ronald J. Lotz's grandfather, Joseph M. Lejeune, while employed at Jones and Laughlin Steel Company in the South Side. Lejeune was born February 1875 in Alsace-Lorraine, France. In 1886, he left France with his family and settled in the South Side of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. By age 13, he was employed as a water boy at J&L Steel and continued working there for the next 55 years. He worked in steel production and fabrication and made many of the tools in this collection.
