Historical NotesThe Portland Cutter was one of the most popular of all sleigh varieties. A cutter was generally a very small sleigh pulled by one horse and used for pleasure driving or racing. These sleighs were popular from their innovation in the mid-19th Century until well after the turn of the 20th Century. A cutter could be purchase for about $20 in 1910. As with present day vehicles, accessories and ornamentation could be added to the sleigh. Possibly gift of the Harriman Family.
