Historical Notes#1872 Santa and his sleigh in milk glass, made by Westmoreland Glass Company, Grapeville, Pennsylvania, with maker's mark overlapping "WG" logo. Sandy Palmer inherited this piece from her mother Louise Woozley DeBerry who grew up in Homestead. Donor Sandy Palmer does not know where and when her mother got it. Her mother loved milk glass as did her mother (Sandy’s grandmother) -- either of them is a possible source for its original purchase. It was always on the family’s Christmas table filled with cranberry sauce. The family lived in Pleasant Hills from about 1945-1946 where Sandy’s parents (dad was Sanford E. DeBerry born in Brownsville, PA, and grew up in the McKeesport area) built their house after her father returned from WWII. Her mom continued using the piece when they moved to a post-Civil War built farmhouse outside Canonsburg after her dad retired. Sandy has had it since moving to Annapolis when her husband, who worked for Westinghouse, was transferred in 1972. She continued putting it on her Christmas table still filled with cranberry sauce. “Tradition,” she says.
