DescriptionThin canvas tote bag with two straps. In the center on one side of the bag is a printed symbol of a lion in blue. Underneath the lion is a printed symbol of a crown also in blue. Printed in blue underneath these printed symbols is the name and location of a hotel. On the other side of the bag is a quotation by Rose F. Kennedy printed in smaller blue letters along the bottom edge.Dimensions27 x 14.75 x 14.5 in. On the other side of the bag is a quotation printed in smaller blue letters along the bottom edge " "Life isn't a matter of milestones, but of moments." / - Rose F. Kennedy".
Historical NotesCanvas carrying bag possibly given at a tea party organized by then Lieutenant Governor Catherine Baker Knoll. She was then rallying support for her son Albert, who was a lobbyist for the oil conglomerate.Catherine Baker Knoll was the first woman Leiutenant Governor from 2003 until her death in 2008. Part of a collection relating to the life and political career of Lieutenant Governor Catherine Baker Knoll. Born in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, Catherine Baker Knoll worked in the family business, Knoll Hotel and Restaurant, developing her people skills and beginning her political activism. In 1970, she became a state committee woman for the Democratic Party, then rose through the ranks of the state's Department of Transportation Bureau of Motor Vehicles. She was tapped by the party in 1976, to run for State Treasurer, but did not get elected to office until 1988. She easily won a second term in 1992, by a landslide vote. In 2002, she was elected as the state's first female Lieutenant Governor.
