(134 x 188 cm)Historical NotesA home-sewn crocheted tablecloth created by donor Charlotte A. Gebert's aunt, Martha A. Jocuns. Martha won a first place prize ribbon for the tablecloth at the 1962 Allegheny County Fair. According to the donor, the tablecloth is believed to have taken Martha four years to complete and includes 682 separate crocheted squares sewn intricately together. Born in Pittsburgh of Lithuanian descent, Mrs. Martha A. Jocuns (1918-1981) was a skilled seamstress who lived and worked on the South Side. She won several awards for her home-sewn creations, including first prize at the 1955 and 1962 Allegheny County Fairs for a centerpiece and the donated tablecloth, respectively.
