Work by his mother, Vinka Ellesin.Label TextBorn in Akron, OH, Vinka Ellesin began her career as a popular entertainer at the age of 15. She was discovered in Cleveland in 1938 and began performing Old World traditional Serbian music for more than 35 years with 36 recordings. Her elevation of Tambura music earned her the title “Queen of Sevdalinka” by fans and critics. Her performances carried her around the country, with many trips to Pittsburgh and the surrounding regions. Many remember her lively and entertaining performances at Kennywood Park for Serb Day. This four-piece outfit was worn by Vinka Ellesin during many of her shows. In addition to performing traditional music, she also wore traditional clothing.
