Historical NotesThis Consul sign hung outside the Italian Consulate office at 419 Wood Street where D'Andrea served as the Vice Consul of Italy from 1983 to 1995; he was promoted to Consul in 1995 and retired from the position in 1999. When he left the position of Consul, he acquired the sign from the wall as a reminder of his time there. Part of a collection that Joseph D'Andrea acquired through his illustrious career in Pittsburgh. During his lifetime he was the Consul of Italy for Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia; President of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA); member of the Board of Directors of the National Education Association; member of the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania's Board of Trustees and chair of its Italian American Advisory Council; and founder and president of the Italian Cultural Heritage Society (AMICI).
