DescriptionRectangular collage on a magazine paper with interesting images on either side that could be used in a larger collage. One side has tall and strangely-shaped white wicker baskets with black numbers painted on them sitting on a beach; shadows of other baskets across the middle of the image and the legs of onlookers in the upper right corner. Other side has an indistinct image of wreckage made out of dark wood; printed caption under image detailing the ship-building center of St. Nazaire, France and the Nazi occupation that made it the target of bombings, whose wreckage can be seen in the image.Dimensions4.813 x 8.688 in. InscriptionsOne side has image of baskets: the basket in the foreground has the number 379 and the basket in the background has number 472.

Other side has printed text under image titled "Ships and Shipways" that details the ship-building center of St. Nazaire, France and the Nazi occupation that made it the target of bombings.
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
