Historical NotesT-shirt created in the memory of three Pittsburgh Police Officers killed in the line of duty on April 4, 2009: Stephen Mayhle, a two-year veteran of the force, Eric Kelly, on the job for 14 years, and Paul Sciullo II, also a two-year veteran. The shirts were sold by Pittsburgh's Fallen Heroes Fund organized by the Pittsburgh Fraternal Order of Police to help the families of these three officers. The proceeds from the t-shirt sales, created by Custom Printed Graphics on the South Side, went directly to the Fund. On Saturday, April 4, 2009, Officers Stephen Mayhle & Paul Sciullo II responded to a domestic dispute call in Stanton Heights. When they stepped into the home, suspected shooter, Richard "Pop" Poplawski opened fire on the unsuspecting officers from inside the house. Officer Eric Kelly, who had just gotten off of duty, decided to back up his fellow officers and was shot on the porch. Two more officers were injured during the attack, including one who was pulling Officer Kelly away from the barrage of gunfire. After several hours, Poplawski surrendered with gunshot wounds to the legs; he was arraigned at the hospital with three charges of homicide amid other charges. On Wednesday, the slain officers laid in repose throughout the night for public viewing at Pittsburgh's city-county building; on Thursday afternoon, a long funeral procession made its way from downtown to Peterson Events Center in Oakland where thousands of Police Officers from throughout the world joined together in remembering the three slain officers. Each officer had his own private burial service.
