Historical NotesPortrait of Shepley Holmes. Dr. Shepley Ross Holmes was married to Mary Skelton, who was born in 1815 and died in 1852. He was a prominent physician in the city of Pittsburgh and was also known for his ability to ride and train horses. Dr. Holmes was born in 1791 in Allegheny County and died of consumption in 1853. He and his wife are both buried in Allegheny Cemetery.
