DescriptionLong black wool cantor robe that buttons up the front. Black velvet around collar, at base of the flared sleeves, down the front on both sides of the opening, and around the bottom. A black decorative ribbon frames the velvet collar in back. Black painted wood buttons with ridged surface alternate on both sides of the front opening.Dimensions55.9999 in. (142.2 cm)
Historical NotesThis robe was used at B'Nai Israel congregation, which was located on Negley Ave. in East Liberty. The cantor, Mordecai Heiser, wore this wool robe with velvet details to lead the congregation in singing and chanting during services. Music director at the temple for almost 50 years, Heiser became known throughout the city for his singing voice.
