Historical NotesThe mid-iron was the equivalent of the modern #2 iron. George Underwwod made hand-forged irons & other clubs at the Butler Country Club & Alcoma Golf Club between 1924 and 1930. Part of a collection of golf equipment. These objects dating from 1900-1930 document the story of golf in this region in the early 20th century and can be linked to important local pros, such as Jack Kennedy (Pittsburgh and Fox Chapel Golf Clubs), Jack Dingwell (Allegheny Country Club and Edgeworth), Edward Melvin (Riverside Country Club), and George Underwood (Butler Country Club or Alcoma).
