Historical NotesThe mashie was the equivalent of the modern #4 or #5 iron. Jack Dingwall made hand-forged irons at the Allegheny Country Club or at Edgeworth Golf Club between 1903 and 1910. Part of a collection of golf equipment. These objects dating from 1900-1930 document the story of golf in this region in the early 20th century and can be linked to important local pros, such as Jack Kennedy (Pittsburgh and Fox Chapel Golf Clubs), Jack Dingwell (Allegheny Country Club and Edgeworth), Edward Melvin (Riverside Country Club), and George Underwood (Butler Country Club or Alcoma). These pros were important to the history of golf in the region, they were educators and coaches and also the primary suppliers for golf clubs.Label TextDingwall assembled this club while working as golf professional at Allegheny Country Club (1903-1904) or Edgeworth Country Club (1905-10).
