DescriptionPainting on white rectangular piece of glossy paper. The paper is covered in painted squares and geometric shapes. Paper is divided by a pink and yellow painted line roughly one-quarter of the way up the page. The top three-quarters of the paper is brown and green squares with a large yellow square almost in the middle of the section. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
