Boggs & Buhl

1869 - 1958
BiographyThe Boggs & Buhl department store, located in Pittsburgh’s North Side neighborhood, was built in 1869 and was closed in 1958. The store catered to the carriage trade, particularly to the residents of Allegheny City’s “millionaires row” just a few blocks away on Ridge Avenue. The six-story building was one of the six major Pittsburgh department stores during the twentieth century. It has been speculated that the last owner of Boggs & Buhl closed the store because he did not consider it economically feasible to update the building with air conditioning and other improvements.
