Sylvester Damianos

BiographyThe influence of Damianos is written on the landscape of our region. For almost 60 years he has balanced dual careers, as an architect and an artist, each pursuit informing the other. His architectural training at Carnegie Tech (now CMU) eventually led to an interest in sculpture and encouraged his work with a variety of media, including concrete, metals, shaped canvas, and wood. Damianos’ current work continues to explore the relationship between mathematics and nature.
Damianos’ art has been featured in national solo and group shows and in London. His most recent major exhibition, a 50-year retrospective, included art shown at the Carnegie Museum of Art in 1966 through his 2017 Westmoreland Museum of Art exhibition. Actively involved in the leadership of arts, cultural, and professional organizations, Damianos has shaped the region through his creative thinking and practice in architecture and the arts.
