BiographyWilliam Robert Shulgold was born in Kamenietz, Russia on July 10, 1897, a son of Bernard and Ada Reisberg Shulgold. The Shulgolds were Jewish and lived in what was called the Russian Partition or Russian Poland, emigrating to America in 1898 where they settled in Pittsburgh, Pa. He studied art at Carnegie Tech and the Pennsylvania Academy of Design. Shulgold lived in Pittsburgh until 1936 when he moved to New York City. He was a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, and the Art Guild of the L.C. Tiffany Foundation. Schulgold is best known for his portraits and etchings.
