Historical NotesCast-iron lamb cake mold related to donor Anthony DiNardo's personal history. The mold was purchased and used by Philomena Brunetti (nee Merena) who was born in Piaggine, Italy. Philomena immigrated to Pittsburgh and married James Vincent Brunetti (b. Naples). The mold, which is missing its back, was used to make lamb-shaped cakes for Easter. Philomena passed the tradition on to her daughter Marie Janet Brunetti DiNardo, the mother of the donor. The donor recalls making lamb cakes with his mother and grandmother for Easter and bringing them as presents to his teachers at St. Agnes School in Oakland. The cakes were decorated with coconut to look like fur and given eyes made of maraschino cherries.
