DescriptionFairy Godmother window figure. Paper-based-material torso, arms, and head painted flesh-colored and face also has painted features. Figure has blue dress with balloon sleeves, high collar neckline, and tulle drapery hanging down from waist and shoulders. Dress has adornments including prisms, cording, ribbon, sequins, and embroidery. Pink yarn bouffant hairstyle with spirals and ringlets. Fabric crown on head with spiral tendrils emanating upward. Proper right hand holds the stub of wood that was presumably once a full wand. Back of torso has unfinished dress and exposed white felt. Figure has metal armature for a base and the figure sits at a diagonal. The armature contains electrical components, a motor, and has a rubber electrical cord that ends in a three-pronged plug.

InscriptionsLabels on the electrical/mechanical elements include a "Dayton" product label and part numbers. One paper tag was removed from the base and stored in the object folder: beige tag with blue handwritten text "MF 05 / 5-1".
Historical NotesThe Cinderella figures were originally displayed at Marshall-Fields in 2005 and were then displayed at Kaufmann's in downtown Pittsburgh circa 2007. Part of a collection of artifacts that document the downtown location of Kaufmann’s (became Macy’s) department store. This large collection of items was field gathered from the downtown location of Macy’s (formerly Kaufmann’s) after the store’s final closing was announced in the fall of 2015. Label TextMacy’s 2007 Christmas display in Pittsburgh told the story of Cinderella in five windows. The figures symbolized the change that took place nationwide in 2006 when Federated Department Stores converted many legendary names to Macy’s. The Cinderella figures originally came from Chicago, where they were shown at Marshall Field’s.
