Historical NotesUsed by Rudolf Mesnar, a tailor on Butler Street, Pittsburgh from 1910 through 1959. Irons such as this were heated on a gas stove and used to flatten seams on wool suits.Label TextRudolf Mesnar had a tailor shop on Butler Street in Pittsburgh from 1910 through 1959, when he retired at age 75. Mr. Mesnar refused to use electrical equipment, preferring to rely on this very heavy, solid block of iron which he felt did a much better job pressing the seams on men’s wool suits.
