Historical NotesAn invalid feeder used by donor Rosemarie Jew's mother, Elsie Marie (Seeman) Jew, during her nursing career. These devices were often used in the late 19th and 20th centuries to facilitate the feeding of invalids with a semi-soft or liquid food that was placed in the feeder; the spout was then placed in the person's mouth. Elsie Marie (Seeman) Jew (1894-1994) graduated from South Side Hospital School of Nursing in 1912. From 1912 to 1914, she was a Public Health nurse, and then she became a nurse for the U.S. Army until 1916. From 1917 until 1920, she was a home nurse, and then she spent two years as a night supervisor for nursing at Columbia Hospital before marrying Edward S. Jew, Sr. MD on November 25th, 1922.
