Geometric design is sketched in pencil then filled in with various colors and styles of paint. The painted shapes within the tan frame include light green background with dark green dots; brown background with dark green and tan dots; dark blue, light blue, and orange dots mixed together; plain white dots; and dark red background with orange dots.Dimensions9.25 x 8.5 in. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
