Historical Notes"Pete!" bumper sticker. Pete Flaherty was a popular Mayor in Pittsburgh from 1970 to 1977. His first campaign used his first name with an exclamation point: "PETE!" When he ran for re-election in 1973, his campaign advisors came up with the very simple pun, "RE-PETE!" Flaherty worked closely with Tom Foerster in his political career and also had a focus on infrastructure when he was in office.
