Historical Notes18th-19th century shackles from the Tudway Plantation in Antigua, West Indies. This shackle has an inscription plate identifying J.P. Tudway, Esq. who was onetime mayor of Wells, Somerset England. (1775-1835) The Tudway family was involved in plantation agriculture in the British West Indies, in particular, Antigua dating back to the 17th century.
