Historical NotesSteam whistle from steamer vessel A.B. Sheets. Collected by Dr. James B. Richardson III, from the Marine Division of U. S. Steel/Clairton Works,1985.Label TextAround 1920, the U. S. Steel Corporation began operating a facility in which they built towboats and repaired towboats and barges. These ships were needed to transport coal and necessary products to USS plants for use in the steel-making process and were also used to transport finished steel products. The steam whistle was used on one of the company’s steamers, the “A. B. Sheets.”
