DescriptionMetal spirit level (bubble level), possibly a machinist level or engineer's level. Stanley No. 34. Rectangular metal base that has triangular channel on underside. Cylindrical spirit level mounted on top of base. Level has unknown liquid inside with air bubble to indicate level surface; colorless glass window on side reveals liquid and air bubble; two lines on window demarcate level area. Historical NotesTool used by Joseph M. Lejeune. Lejeune worked at Jones and Laughlin Steel Company in the South Side. Lejeune was born February 1875 in Alsacié-Lorraine, France. In 1886, he left France with his family and settled in the South Side of Pittsburgh. By age 13, he was employed as a water boy at J&L and continued working there for the next 55 years. He worked in steel production and fabrication.
