DescriptionDark brown, wooden piccolo with metal keys. Six keyed piccolo with six tone holes and six metal keys that can be pressed open and closed. The piccolo can be pulled apart into two pieces, and the first has a silver-colored metal crown on one end, a silver-colored metal lip plate with a hole in the center, and a wooden barrel with silver-colored metal rings on each end. Second piece of the piccolo has a tenon joint that fits into the barrel, open tone holes and metal keys, and an open hole on the end with a metal ring.DimensionsHeight x Width x Depth: 12.625 x 1.375 x 0.875 in. Historical NotesThis piccolo is believed to have belonged to Virgil Andreatta, the youngest four children to Paolo Andreatta Sr. and his wife Maria Bailoni. The entire family was musically inclined, and, at one point, they played music together, possibly in a family band. It was brought to America when Maria Bailoni migrated to Ambridge, Pennsylvania, with her four children in 1928 to join Paolo Sr. who was already in the country. They were originally from the Trentino region in Italy. The case (2020.13.3) the piccolo came in has a carving on the lid and features the symbol for the band and portraits of Dante Alighieri and Christopher Columbus. The symbolism is interesting because the family comes from the Trentino region of Italy, which was formerly ruled by the Austro-Hungarian empire until 1919; the historical figures are Italian, which leads one to understand the family is ethnically Italian.
