DescriptionColorless glass cup plate. Plate has a circular foot and sides that angle inward to create a shallow well in the center. Rim is an octagonal shape with a scalloped edge. Top of plate is smooth, and underside has a raised image of a steamboat with text around the edge in the middle. Underside of sides have raised numbers one through eight separated by three types of images. First image is an eagle; second image is of seven ovals stacked three-three-one, and the top oval has a cross on it. Third image is four circles connected by a star in the middle. DimensionsHeight x Diameter: 0.438 x 3.625 in. (1.1 x 9.2 cm)
InscriptionsRaised text in center of plate: "UNION GLASS WORKS / PITTSBURGH / 1836".

Raised numbers around sides of plate: "1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8".
Historical NotesLee/Rose cup plate No. 614-X-1. Plate is extremely rare and probably made by Parke, Campbell & Hanna in Pittsburgh in 1836. Plate was purchased from a Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates, Inc. on June 19, 2024. Previous Owners: The Matthew T. Hardesty Collection. Purchased from Larry Oman, Richfield, MN, 12/7/2018. Jeffrey S.
