Historical NotesThese wine bottles were collected from the Heinz History Center public program “In Vino Veritas: A Smithsonian Conversation on Wine,” offered in conjunction with the American Spirits: the Rise and Fall of Prohibition exhibit. As a part of the event, local wine making families brought in homemade wine for the public to sample. All of the grapes and grape juice used to make the wines were purchased from Consumers Fresh Produce, a wholesale produce company in the Strip District. The labels are representative of the creative license taken by home winemakers to design labels similar to commercial wines.
