DescriptionBlack synthetic fabric judicial robe, size 51. Calf-length robe with pleats across front of shoulders, around shoulders, and across back. Full, long sleeves with internal smaller sleeves. Short front panel underneath robe's two front exterior panels has black metal zipper closure. Two long front panels secure closed at top with metal hook-and-eye fastener and two black-red plastic buttons with black cord closure. Upper back has twisted black fabric cord with a black-red plastic button just above the pleats. DimensionsHeight x Width (Width is between shoulder seams): 53.5 x 13 in. (135.9 x 33 cm)

Historical NotesJudge's robes worn by Judge Rochelle S. Friedman while she was on the Commonwealth Court. Rochelle S. Friedman was raised in the East Liberty neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She attended Rogers School and the University of Pittsburgh for both undergraduate and law school. Friedman served as a judicial law clerk to Judge James R. McGregor of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County and as solicitor to Robert N. Peirce, Clerk of Courts of Allegheny County. After three failed attempts at running for the Court of Common Pleas, she won a seat on the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania and served from 1992 until her retirement in 2016. She was notable for her defense of the first amendment, the rights of women and minorities, and other civil liberties.
