DescriptionPair of white leather women's shoes or boots, left shoe (a) and right shoe (b). Mid-calf height with fourteen (14) white domed shank buttons and buttonholes down the exterior side of each shoe. Narrow sole with dull pointed toe. Front of toe has second layer of leather with band of holes along the rear. Two-inch heel covered with white leather. Brown leather sole. Historical NotesThis pair of shoes belonged to Eliza Kennedy Smith. Eliza and her sister Lucy, as well as their parents Julian and Jennie Kennedy, were leaders in the suffrage movement in Pittsburgh. Julian served as the first president of the Equal Franchise Federation of Pittsburgh, which was co-founded by Jennie. Eliza and Lucy spent many years advocating for women’s suffrage through speeches and political action.
